Very striking John. And the different gaze from each eye takes my own eyes back and forth, back and forth…then all around. I’m also taken by how the face blends into the background on one side and is defined (defended?) with the thick black line on the other side. The balances in this piece are evocative!
The abyss’ function is its pervasiveness to silently change. One needs to recognise its signature and take appropriate action. Such a troubled soul i.e. your painting.
How could I have missed that one, and on a significant day to me… I see this as a very special gift, my dear John. Thank you. On a side note, he is right, isn’t he?! 🙂
I’m more than gratified I have touched a special place for you Marina. The light of giving you this gift takes away some of the dark of the edge…and yes, he is right, of course…
Such a strong image!

This painting is mesmerizing. Totally fits the quote. Perhaps too self aware to become a monster. An actual monster.

The monster is always present, is it not? as is the abyss. I maintain my balance and thank you for your thoughts Steven, always…
